Old Christians GAA club have their benefit meeting on Saturday and a host of sweep finals will be held in conjunction with the fixture.
Last Saturday the annual GAA Supporters’ Club meeting raised a substantial amount to help fund expenses for the various county teams in the championships. A superb run in an Open final, worth €900, by Shaneboy Sophia (Droopys Vieri-Shaneboy Ruth) was the highligh. Gold Honcho (3) made the first bend but by the second corner Shaneboy Sophia, owned by Master Eoghan Kiely in Kilmallock, had taken over and went clear for a four lengths win in 28.32.
In the A4 Final, Steragel Rose (3) led at the first and second bends from Hi Flying Ryan (1), but in the back straight Hi Flying Ryan (Sonic Fliht-Kilquane Lass), owned by the Tumbletown syndicate, came flying through, winning by three lengths in 28.63 for trainer Neilus O’Connell of Fedamore. Second-placed Steragel Rose, owned by K Carroll of Newmarket-On-Fergus was three lengths clear of Dalcash Alonso (2), owned by Mrs Jackie O’Neill in the city and trained by Denis P O’Malley. Pallasgreen owner, Jonathan Deere, sent in the winner of the A6 final. His Bushy Lass (Top Honcho-Bushy Belle) was out fast from the inside trap, led by the first bend, and made all for a four lengths win in 29.17 from Clonlusk Joan (3), owned by James Kennedy in Doon and trained by Joe Collins. Inferno (2) was third, three lengths behind, for D & B O’Riordan of Dromkeen. The Pat Curtin-owned and trained Smoking Again, won the A3 final over 550 yards in 30.02 from Angle of Destiny (1), owned in Charleville by Jerry O’Brien. Glenadda Beauty (4) was third for Joe O’Shaughnessy from Ballyhahill. In a supporting A4, Bangers Vieri and Sams Whisper were very close at the first bend but from the second, it was Sams Whisper who moved to the front. Owned in Bruff by Declan Reale, Bangers Vieri (Droopys Vieri-Local Susie) finished with a short head win in 28.91, with the Laurianne Carmody-owned Noels Nell three lengths back, in third. Jerjo (3), led at the second bend for Mrs Margaret Irwin of Croom in an A8 and was baulked. By the home straight, Ryves Kevin (Droopys Vieri-Movealong Rose) took over and went on for a first success for Michael McCarthy of Knocklong, scoring from trap six in 29.63.
The Thomas Breen-owned Dawla (4) led at the first and second bends in the A7 from Gorgeous Fawn (Ballintore Brave-Ballyabbey Lady). By the third bend she was in front, where she remained to score by three parts of a length in 29.37 for Kathleen O’Brien of Ballyhahill, with Dawla third, a length behind second placed Rabbits Rose (6). There was a thrilling finish to the Novice 700. Blue Moon Rising (Larkhill Jo-Pony Plant), owned in Fedamore by Christy Enright got the verdict by a neck in 39.49, from Gulleen Trix (6), who was a short head in front of the always prominent Goodbye Lucy (4). |
