Limerick Civic Trust, which this year is celebrating the 25th anniversary of it’s founding, and which has carried out such marvelous work throughout the city will stage their annual benefit meeting at the Markets Field to-morrow night.

Last Saturday six sweep finals, the two semi-finals of an open puppy sweep, and semi-finals of an A3 over 550 yards, the final of which will be run to-morrow were held.

Best of the 550 yards winners was Natural Disaster (Tucks Mein-Shaunas Flash), owned locally by Robert Peter Williams who made all when being seven lengths clear when scoring in 30.25.

The other heat was won by the Michael O’Sullivan, Elton, trained, Ronto (Droopys Vieri-Toronto Katie) who came with a late surge to score by a length in 30.54 in a race in which the Christy Enright, Fedamore, owned, Blue Moon Rising (3) was fast away but had to be content with the third qualifying place.

Leamaneigh Flash will be the sole local representative in the Open Puppy final next Saturday which will have €3,500 for the winner. Owned by Paddy Hennessy of Kilteely and trained in Doon by Pat Buckley he finished third when a total of five lengths behind the 28.39 winner .

All six sweep finals had €650 for the winnners and the best performance came from Seal And Deliver (Honcho Classic-Doonard Lower). Breaking well in the A1 final from trap four he led into the first bend and went on for a six lengths win in 28.69 for Patrick Stanley of Ballyhahill. Local trainer Denis Hayes supplied the runner-up when Great Cop (3), owned by the Hard Luck syndicate of Sixmilebridge finished well to be second.

Fastaway Wok (5) was second when beaten seven lengths by the 29.01 winner of the novice 2 final in which Joe Murphy’s, Rattling Dan (1) was third.

In the A5 final, Face The Magic (3) showed good early pace but had to be content with second place for James Walsh when three parts of a length behind Katie Dear (4) who came through late to deny Face The Magic.
