There was a superb programme of racing at the Markets Field on Saturday and this was reflected by a big attendance which was boosted by many visitors who were in the area to attend the Irish Cup coursing meeting at Greenmount which concluded on Sunday.

The second round of the Limerick Brakes Kennedy Cup open 525 was the main focus of interest on a night when there were six sweep finals and a straight match over 300 yards, which produced the fastest time ever recorded at the venue.

There was a superb win in heat two of the Kennedy Cup by Goldmine Emre (Droopys Vieri-Miss Jackson).

Breaking well from trap four he led at the first bend and then went away from his rivals for a fastest of the round win in a superb 28.30 for Alan Higgins of Adare. Banbas Vieri (2) did not start well but put in a strong finish to be third for Miss Stephanie Goff, a grand daughter of Joe Mangan of Crecora.

The opening heat saw Bua Visentini (Droopys Kewell-Droopys Bunton), owned by Master Eoin Dillon of Rathkeale and trained by Maurice O’Connor of Tarbert, lead from the second bend.

Once in front he made the rest when winning by three lengths in 28.51 with the Neilus O’Connell, Fedamore, trained, Razldazl Denys (3) two lengths behind Dramatic Win.

Doon traner Pat Buckley supplied Four Dubs (2) to justify odds-on favouritism in heat three while Blade Shadow (1), owned by the Bargain King syndicate of Newmarket-On-Fergus was a six lengths winner of heat four in 28.83. The five sweep finals over 525 yards all had €580 for the winners. The A5 saw Welcome Return (Hondo Black-Jacks Flyer), owned by Michael Roche make all when beating Liam Mann’s, Clarina, Faha Scholes (3) by three parts of a length in 29.21 with Satans Boy (1) taking third place after starting well but he was baulked at the first bend which proved costly.

There were only four runners in the A7 final in which the favourite, Kish Dowager, owned by Miss Josephine Cahir of Kishiquirk, was baulked at the first bend was a length in front of Kish Dowager. But in the closing stages, Scala Honcho (Top Honcho-Malbay Rapid), owned by Joe Brazzil in Kilmallock, beat Lady Avenger.
