Local trainer, John Rainsford, supplied the fastest winner of the night at Limerick on Saturday when the English owned, Adamant Bear (Larkhill Jo-Gragane Comet) was a five lengths winner in 28.50 in the Tim Crowe sponsored open 550 at the Sixmilebridge GAA club sponsored meeting.

Fastaway Star (5), owned by Dan Flynn from Meelick and trained in Drombanna by Denis P. O’Malley, was second all the way and Bustins Call (1), owned in Mungret by Michael O’Grady was three lengths further back, third.

Kilmallock owner, James O’Riordan, supplied the winner of the A1. His Two Two Many (Top Honcho-What A Wonder) was away very fast from trap three and he made all to return to winning form when having a five and a half lengths win in 28.96.

Kish Behan (3) was prominent all the way but Miss Josephine Cahir’s, Kishiquirk, owned black was beaten a length by the 28.91 winner.

There was another local win in the novice 1. Paddy Hennessy’s, Leamaneigh Flash (World Class-Legal Jan) made it two wins from as many starts when he led all the way for a four lengths win in 29.01 from the Joe Williams, Rathkeale, owned, Jessies Blue (1) who was a head in front of Mrs. Janet Downes, Killaloe, owned, Ta Toosh (2).

Tally Ho Idol (3) made a good start but was always second for Miss Irma Wall of Rathkeale in the A2 final and was beaten three parts of a length by the 29.22 winner.

Mrs. Freda Shanahan could be in for a successful time with her Joe Silkey (Silkey Joe-Lathive Lass). The sire is the 300 track record holder at this venue and this was Joe Silkey’s second win from four starts and the second in succession. He made all from trap three to win by seven lengths in 29.28 in the A6 puppy final from Kathleen Clery’s, Lilac Gem (5).

The Pat O’Connor, Tarbert, trained and Saleen syndicate owned, Saleen Knight (Honcho Classic-Shanless Euro) put in a powerful finish to take the open 550 by three parts of a length in 30.30 after pacemaker, Jacko Patsy (3) faded on the run in.
Once again the annual benefit night to raise funds for the Limerick Social Service Centre brought new faces to the stadium last Thursday. How many will return on a more permanent basis is a moot point but the fixture was again a big success.
