THE BUILD-UP to Super Saturday, to be held on Saturday November 29, has started at the Markets Field and until then heats of many valuable sweeps will be run with all finals on the same night as part of the Limerick-Clare owners and Breeders benefit fixture.
First up last Thursday were six heats of the Christy Daly Memorial A3 Sweep, with €1,500 for the winner on Super Saturday.
Fastest winner was Saleen Neidin (3), trained by Pat O’Connor, who beat the first and second bend leader, All Elegance (2), owned by Tina Keyes and trained by Denis P O’Malley, by two lengths in 29.39.
Geeandtee, a reserve in trap six, was third for Gavin Meehan and T Brennan of Shannon.
Killacolla Tyson (LarkhillJo-Killacolla Queen) hit the front by the second bend in heat five and made the rest for a five lengths win in 29.56 for John Paul Fitzgerald from Glin with William O’Neill’s, Ruling Jupiter (6), three lengths back, third.
Nuke Bound (5) finished well to be second in heat two for Timothy J Redfern of Murroe when beaten three parts of a length by the 29.53 winner.
The Nine Out Of Ten syndicate from Kilmallock celebrated when the Neilus O’Connell, Fedamore, owned, Pama Joe (Tucks Mein-Elka Pearl) made all from trap five to win the last heat in 29.63 with Wellstone Jazz (2), third, for Patsy Riordan of Shannon.
In heat four, Shaneboy Francie (Brett Lee-Shaneboy Ruth) was out like a flash from trap five. Having his first race he won for Denis Kiely from Kilmallock, by a length in 29.64 from longtime leader, Fellestin Lad (6), owned by Natal O’Grady of Patrickswell.
Timothy Hanley from Garrydoolis sent in the winner of heat three when his Oyster Rodge (Top Savings-Oyster Glory) came through from the fourth bend to beat Selecta Galaxy (2),owned by Pat Flanagan and trained in Newcastle West by John Corbett, by three lengths in 29.79.
On Saturday Thomond Rugby Club staged a benefit which had three sweep finals and two of the three went to local owners.
In the A4 Knockbawn Socks (Ballymac Maeve-Confident Aoife) did not start all that well but by the time they reached the fourth bend she hit the front and finished well to win by a length in 29.25 for Michael Shine from Athea,
Bushy Lass (Top Honcho-Bushy Belle) took the A5 from trap two when winning by three lengths for Jonathan Deere of Pallasgreen and trainer Denis Hayes when beating Indiana Flyer (3), owned by the Egans from Kilmallock.
Gorgeous Fawn (4), owned by Mrs Kathleen O’Brien from Ballyhahill was third, beaten a length and a half and a short head by the 29.31 winner in the A2 final.
The Northside Regeneration open 550 was won by Dan Wren’s, Tarbert, owned, Steeple Rd Roco (6) in 30.50.
The four first round heats of the Larry O’Shea A2 over 550 yards were also run with the semi-finals scheduled for Thursday week.
It was a good night for owner Wren as he also supplied the fastest winner in this event when Upward Tina scored in 30.32 from Mrs Jackie O’Neill’s, Limerick, Dalcash Alonso with John Lyons and Paulie Ryan from Kilmallock supplying third placed, Canavour Lass (3).
Patrick Maher’s, Brennies Boy made all to win his heat by a short head with Origami, owned by Mrs Jennifer Murphy, third.
Right Impression (4) qualified when third in heat 3 for Mrs Tina Keyes of Crecora and Mrs Ann Stanley from, Ballyhahill, had reason to be pleased when her Kilree Jessy (Droopys Kewell-Im Kilree Cheeky) came through late to take heat four by a length and a half in 30.49 from Michel B Holly’s, Glin, owned Lively Clipper (2) who was a short head better than Cowboys Creek (5) owned by Morgan and Helena McMahon from Abbeyfeale.
