Limerick's two representatives in the coveted Dr. Harty Cup remain firmly on course for qualification into the knock-out stages!

Ard Scoil Rís preserved their unbeaten record with a stunning 4-17 to 1-3 win against CBS Charleville at Kevin Long Memorial Park, Feenagh. Towering full-forward and Clare minor Darach Honan was the game's outstanding performer, netting a hugely impressive 3-1. Kevin Brennan was another to turn-in a riveting performance, emerging with a handsome 1-3, while Tommy O'Brien finished with four points.

The Limerick side were out of sight by the break, ahead 4-9 to 1-0.

Liam Kennedy's side are now easily expected to qualify for the last eight of the competition, needing only a draw (if even that) in their concluding fixture to achieve an early season goal. Kennedy is joined in the management set-up this season by former county goalkeeper Tom Hennessy and Limerick attacking star Niall Moran, a new recruit to the teaching staff at Ard Scoil Rís.

Doon CBS are also unbeaten after two starts in the competition, defeating Our Lady's of Templemore 1-18 to 1-14 at New Inn in their latest outing. There was never more than three points between them until right at the death when Doon replacement Gearoid Ryan pounced to put his team a goal to the good. Full-forward Jerry O'Neill quickly knocked over the insurance point, his tenth of the afternoon.

The contest was tied at the break, 1-6 to 0-9.

Without question, this display represented a statement of intent on the part of Doon CBS, who were only recently reinstated into a competition in which they have reached the last four of late. The east Limerick side have been proving their worth, however, at lesser age levels and are likely to be there or there abouts at the business end of this colleges' championship.

It's a decade or more now since Doon CBS won the All-Ireland 'B' Colleges title on a famous afternoon at Pairc Tailteann in Navan.

In terms of the Dr. Harty Cup, Limerick CBS were the last local winners – that victory at McDonagh Park in Nenagh was against overwhelming favourites St. Flannan's of Ennis and the team included the likes of Alan Browne, Tony Houlihan, Barry Foley and the great Clem Smith. Sexton Street also hold the distinction of lifting the first Dr. Harty Cup in 1920, when Bob McConkey's team triumphed over St. Colman's of Fermoy on a remarkable scoreline of 7-0 to 3-0 at the Market's Field Stadium.
