Other top golfers in the society include Pat Spillane, Joe Dooley, Cormac Hurley, John Leamy and Joe O’Reilly. Joe had the distinction of scoring a hole in one last year, while ace hurling goalkeeper John Leamy was one of the driving forces behind the Munster Hurling Goalkeepers Golf Challenge’.
Dave Acton will hold his President’s Prize outing at Adare Manor Golf Club on June 23, and big-hitting Dave is very familiar with the course as he used to play there every Tuesday with Dad’s Army. However, John L Sullivan has already been installed as the bookies favorite for Dave’s prize. John L is a member of Adare Manor and has been putting in that little bit of extra practice on the quiet in recent weeks. Professor Anders Ahlbom, who led the Swedish study, concluded his research by saying “a round of golf means being outside for four or five hours, walking at a fast pace for six to seven kilometres, something which is known to be good for the health.” “The lower the death rate among the best golfers may be due to the extra time they spend on the course,” Prof Ahlbom concludes.
