Montauban will become the 55th team to play in the Heineken Cup when they come to Thomond Park on Friday October 10th to play Munster.

They qualified for the Heineken Cup by finishing 7th in the French Championship.

The return Heineken Cup game in Montauban will be at the end of January.

The Montauban ground is situated in the rugby heartland of the south of France just 50km north of Toulouse. In fact it is nearer Toulouse than Castres.

There was a time when Munster feared taking on French sides in their own back yard but all that has changed since Mick Galwey’s side beat Colomiers in 1999 and we have now beaten two French sides in the Heineken Cup final; Biarritz and Toulouse.

The Munster fans have also traveled to Perpignan, Bourgoin, Castres and Paris where the team played Stade Francais.

Montauban won the French Championship back in 1967 but since then have generally had to play second fiddle to Toulouse and Castres.

Their head coach Laurent Travers was a member of the Brive side who won the Heineken cup in 1997.
