When rugby went professional there were a number of club voluntary workers who said, “If the players are getting money we want cash too.”
Bruff never had any problems in that regard, and their hard working committeemen David O’Keeffe, Seoirse Clancy, Eugene O’Shea and others, worked tirelessly without any monetary award for the love of their club.
President Willie Conway told me they have now installed an excellent set of match quality lights. “The lads dug the holes and put the lights in themselves,” said Willie, who was an excellent winger in his rugby playing days. Willie went on to say that club loyalty was the main reason for their success. “The term like father like son is one we use a lot in this club,” said Willie “and we have sons pulling on the Bruff jersey that their father proudly wore.” With two matches to go in the First Division, Shannon will hope that their loss to Dolphin last week was only a slight blimp and they should win in Dublin against UCD to secure a home semi-final play off. Garryowen play Old Belvedere at Dooradoyle and a win would give them a home semi final. UL Bohemians should beat Greystones in Dublin. The top match in the Second Division will be an intriguing one at Rosbrien where Old Crescent play Young Munster. Crescent had a good win against Ballynahinch, which took them off the bottom of the table, but they may need at least a bonus point to keep them up.
Young Munster will be going all out to win to gain promotion. Thomond are also in the relegation zone and they are at home to UCC. This is going down to the wire… |
