Following Limerick 37's dreadful performance against bottom club, Kilkenny City, at Jackman Park last Friday manager Paul McGee did not hide his acute disappointment.

It was another routing by a lowlier team, and Limerick travel to Dundalk this Thursday in a bid to maintain their fourth position.

A big improvement will be needed if the points are to be taken. Meantime this Thursday, Limerick District League begin their campaign in the Oscar Traynor Cup when they face the Munster Senior League at Jackman Park (8pm).

Manager Aidan Ryan has named his squad for this important tie, which includes international Keith Harnett, as well as Alan Barry and Shane O'Donoghue.

This is a game that is worthy of support by all soccer followers, with Limerick fancied to go a long way.

On the local front, the top game last weekend was the Munster Senior Cup clash between Ballynanty Rovers and Avondale, Cork, who beat Pike Rovers in the previous round. Ballynanty emerged winners by the odd goal in three.

Martin Wallace put Ballynanty in front and in the second half Robert Brock made it 2-0 after a mix-up in the Avondale defence. The Cork side got their consolation late in stoppage time.

Aisling Annacotty were ousted from the top of the Premier League when visiting Pike Rovers beat them 4-2. Paul Cummins put Aisling Annacotty in front but Paul Moloney had Pike level.

Dave Wall put Pike Rovers in front and made it three 3-1 before the points were wrapped up with a goal by Dermot Phelan.

In the dying minutes, Aidan Hurley had a consolation goal for the losers, who will very disappointed with this result, which takes Fairview Rangers to the top of the table.

Fairview, away to Corbally United, had to work hard for their 2-1 win. Corbally had a player sent off after only six minutes. Trevor Cosgrave opened the scoring for Fairview but Feargail O'Connell had Corbally on terms before halftime. It took a goal by Shane Byrne to give Fairview the points.

The game between Regional Utd and Carew Park was abandoned after 65 minutes by which stage Carew Park were reduced to eight players and Regional led 2-0.

The Lawson Cup also got underway and there were wins for Janesboro, Star Rovers, Summerville Rovers and Murroe. Janesboro beat Hyde Rangers, 3-1, thanks to goals from Danny Hanley (2) and Alan Barry while Keith Madigan scored for the losers.

Leonard O'Grady was on the mark when Star Rovers beat Kilfinane 2-0 and an own goal completed their tally. Despite failing to score from a penalty, Summerville emerged 2-1 winners against Coonagh United. Damien Quinlivan put Summerville in front and John Travis levelled for Coonagh.
