Page 1 of 2 Limerick 37 could be in danger of losing their licence to compete in the Eircom League after only one year in existence. It is widely feared that if there is not a swift resolution of financial issues affecting the players, manager, and other staff, could mean the loss of the licence. It is understood that five weeks' wages are due to a majority of the players. Rumours are sweeping the city that a number of the players are on the brink of signing for other clubs. Ger Finnin, CEO of Limerick 37 when asked for a comment on the reports said: "I make it a policy never to comment on rumours as this just gives them credence. We will be making announcements regarding new signings next week and will let you know in advance." For the second week in a row, atrocious weather took its toll on the scheduled match programme on the junior front. The entire programme was washed out in the Desmond League jurisdiction but three games in the Munster Junior Cup went ahead under the auspices of the LDMC which was a great achievement for the groundsmen at the venues. Perhaps the muddy conditions had something to do with it, but the three games produced a total of 18 goals, with nine being scored in one of them and eight in another. But the most interesting game of the round was that between the holders, Pike Rovers, and city rivals, Ballynanty Rovers who were beaten in the final last season. It was played at the LIT grounds and unsurprisingly between such great rivals, scoring opportunities were at a minimum. |
