Page 1 of 2 Maybe it is keeping with the spirit of the time of year, but it is a case of silent day as far as Limerick 37 is concerned.
Not a word has been heard since the last game of the season and now is the time to plan for the next campaign, which gets underway in mid March. Still, no word has emanated about who has been re-signed, or signed, has emanated from Jackman Park.
Star Rovers were first to earn that distinction and last Sunday they were joined by Kilmallock, Pike Rovers, Ballynanty Rovers and one place is still to be decided when Aisling Annacotty and Regional United do battle. In one of the most dramatic finishes for many seasons, Pike Rovers, edged out Carew Park in a thriller at Crossagalla. It was not a classic in terms of football but for excitement at the end this one takes beating. Carew Park went in front when Denis Whelan’s cross beat everybody and wound up in the Pike net. That goal was against the run of play but it gave Carew a major boost as they had soaked up considerable pressure prior to that. Keith Hartnett, the Irish international, showed just why he is rated so highly when he cracked in the equaliser from 25 yards. Neither side could score again in normal or extra time and it went to a penalty shoot-out. This was a nervewracking time for players and supporters from both clubs. And yet again it was Harnett who kept his cool to slot home the decisive goal, which gave Pike a 7-6 win.
Ballynanty Rovers had to work extremely hard to get the better of Summerville Rovers in an exciting game at Portland Park. The only goal went to Ballynanty courtesy of Frank Lee. Kilmallock are certainly enjoying a great season and they cruised to a 3-0 win over Athlunkard Villa. Niall Burchill scored twice with Mike Cunneen also on the mark in what was comfortable win, which will inspire confidence for the next round.
