LIMERICK 37 turned in a superb display when they thoroughly outplayed table toppers, Dundalk, at Jackman Park on Friday.

The score was only 2-0 but, with Garry Sheehan in superb form, it could have been by a far bigger margin.

Both goals came in the five minutes before the interval. Davey Ryan hit a cracker from 20 yards and Sheehan then did even better when he let fly from a similar distance after it seemed that he was going to allow Tommy Barrett have a shot but Sheehan turned sublimely to give Chirs Bennion no chance.

It is a source of irritation for Mike Kerley that Limerick can fare so well against top teams and yet are brought down to the level of those below them when they meet.

Hence he will be hoping for another win this Friday when they travel to Kildare County, which would set them up nicely for the visit of Shelbourne on Friday week.

Certainly the future looks bright for Limerick who looks set for a mid table finish with promotion very much the aim next season.

After three games in the local Premier League no club can boast of not dropping points.

Three clubs share top of the table on seven points after three series of games, Fairview Rangers, Regional United and Ballynanty Rovers are all unbeaten. A point behind are Aisling Annacotty and Pike Rovers.

Following their opening day five goal spree, Fairvew battled hard for a 2-1 win over Janesboro in midweek with former Limerick 37 players, Jonathan Grant getting the winner after his side was reduced to ten men.

For their part Regional followed their surprise 1-0 win against Pike with a similar win against Carew Park with Frank Stewart on the mark.

Then on Sunday in the match of the day the two winning sides clashed at the Fairgreen and it finished in an equitable 1-1 draw.

Another former Limerick 37 player, Darren Harrington, hit a cracker from 20 yards to put Fairview in front but by the interval a header by Stewart, from a cross by Alan Finucane, had Regional level and though both had chances subsequently neither could score again.

Ballynanty Rovers, winners against Dromore Celtic and Corbally United, did well to take a point from their visit to Pearse Stadium. Shane Clarke scored both goals for the home wide and Frank Lee and Robert Earls, with a header, saw it end all square after Ballynanty had a player sent off in the second half.

Pike Rovers followed their 2-0 midweek win with a spectacular 5-2 win over Kilmallock.

Keith Hartnett scored twice for the winners, as did Pat Moloney with John Boyle also on the mark.

Aisling Annacotty whipped Dromore Celtic by 5-0. Jason Sheehan (2), Anto McDonnell, Gordon Roe and Frank Browne were the scorers with Browne scoring against his former club.

Carew Park had their first win of the season when they beat Granville Rangers, 2-1.

By far the most interesting game to-morrow night (6.30) is the meeting of Ballynanty and Fairview.

This could be a real cracker between two of top three. Regional United should be too strong for Granville Rangers who have lost twice since surprising Aisling Annacotty on opening day and I predict Janesboro to beat Wembley at Rathuard while Kilmallock and Carew Park in Kilmallock looks like a draw and Aisling Annacotty should have the better of matters against Corbally.

In the Demond League round two saw Ballingarry beat Broadford Utd 5-0 and Glin Rovers trounced Old Mill, 6-1, while Newcastle West Rovers were 3-1 winners against Carrig Celtic.

Newcastle West beat Rathkeale 2-1 while Abbeyfeale United and Killeaney played out a scoreless draw.

Newcastle West and Glin Rovers even at this erarly stage are the only two unbeaten teams. There were no midweek games in the Premier.
