Page 1 of 2 Fourth spot in the Eircom League first division could be clinched by Limerick 37 on Friday night should they manage to beat Shelbourne at Jackman Park. A win would leave them comfortably ahead of the last few games, in what has been a memorable launch year for Paul McGee’s side.![]() Cian Williams, Caherdavin Celtic in control of the ball against Shane Tracey, Parkville in their Premier division match. Picture: Brendan Gleeson McGee will be even more confident for next season because he has brought in a number of talented young players this season and several more are in the pipeline. A further sign of encouragement is that the Under-21 side have qualified for the national stage of their League, having wrapped up the Southern section title which they were presented with in Askeaton on Sunday after they beat Lifford. Shane Clarke who scored twice for Limerick in a recent Eircom League tie shone in this latest victory, and he looks a very bright prospect. There will be a 7.45 kick-off this Friday and games between Limerick and Shelbourne have always been keenly contested. Meanwhile there was a big upset in the FAI Junior Cup on Sunday morning when Corbally United were beaten by Kennedy Park in a five-goal thriller. Geoffrey Williams scored twice for Kennedy Park who also had a goal by Frank Cronin.
The biggest scorers of the round were Aisling-Annacotty who trounced Newport 7-2. Anthony Cusack scored twice and the other scorers were Shane Murphy, Paul Cullen and Ronan Smalle. Former Limerick player, Jason Purcell, scored from a penalty in Fairview Rangers’ 2-0 win over Mungret-Regional, with Pat O’Higgins grabbing the lead goal. Other big winners were Regional United, who had five goals without reply against Caledonians. Tony Fahy scored twice and Mike Behan was also on the mark for the winners who were helped by an own goal by a Caledonians defender. Pike Rovers travelled to Wembley Rovers and came away with a 3-0 win. They, too, had the benefit of an own goal with Pat Moloney and Alan Finucane also on the mark. Kilmallock are having a very good season and they made the short trip to Charleville and won 2-1. Tommy Heffernan and Mike Cunneeen scored for the winners, with James O’Shaughnessy on the mark for Charleville. There was a seven-goal thriller in Athlunkard Villa’s 4-3 away victory over Hyde Rangers. It was a similar scoreline when Pallasgreen edged out St Patrick’s.
