Page 1 of 2 De Masters Golf Society De Masters Golf Society was founded in De Bucket pub at the Ferry Bridge five years ago and is going from strength to strength. ![]() THE MOOSE BAR GOLF SOCIETY: On tour in Myrtle Beach recently were: back, from left, Fergus O’Donovan, Dermot Darcy, Mike Reddan, Bunny O’Neill, Brendan Moloney; and front, Ray Daly, Bobby Fleming and Terrence Casey. The level of activity has increased dramatically over the past moth as the golfers are earnestly preparing for their Captain Pat Davern’s prize day at Castletroy Golf Club on Saturday. Pat, a former Limerick hurling great, has told the members about the magnificent new lay out of the Castletroy course with it’s new water features. Mike Daly, one of the founding members of the society and staunch member of Adare Manor Golf Club, was a bit troubled at the mention of water.
“We don’t have much water to contend with in Adare,” said Mick, “so a few of us decided to play a round at Castletroy last week, just to get our bearings” he said. When he stands on the first tee at Adare Manor he takes out his nine wood for a par three hole that most golfers hit a wedge or 9 iron to. “It doesn’t matter what club you use” continued Mike “as long as the ball gets on the green”.
Albert Barry, another member of Adare, introduced Mike to a 10 wood and the big man uses it to get over the many trees in Adare. Albert bought the club at Heaton’s in the Crescent Shopping Center and looks upon it as his magic wand. De Masters secretary Shane Adams told me that he could get very little information about how Mike and his friends round went at Castletroy. “Nomally”said Shane “Mike would be telling everyone in the De Bucket how he played this hole and that but there has been complete silence about his practice round. We don’t even know who played with him”.
