Stryker (formerly Howmedica) Golf Society has completed yet another fine year on the golf courses of the region, culminating in their Christmas outing on December 28 at Ennis Golf Club.

Robert Singleton was last year’s Captain and John Scanlon fulfilled the role of President.

Robert’s prize day was at East Clare Golf Club earlier in the year, and he had an excellent turn out of members, with Kevin Fitzgerald winning the main trophy.

Maurice Whelan has been in sparkling form on the golf course this year, and it was no surprise when he took the President’s Prize at Lahinch Golf Club last September.

The secretary of the society is Alaster Lynch with Michel Kenny taking over the arduous duties of treasurer.
Stryker play seven outings a year, plus two away outings to Killarney and Kilkenny, where they play for the DP Whelan perpetual trophy.

They also play in a ‘triangular championship’, which includes Stryker Orthopedic and Stryker Medical.
The Limerick Stryker golf society won this year in Fermoy.

Howmedica have always been known for their sporting prowess on the Gaelic Games, Soccer and Rugby fields, and the Stryker society are littered with well-known sports names.

John Finucane, Al’s brother, was a fine soccer player himself, playing centre half for Ballynanty Rovers.
Eddie Mooney, a great Young Munster man, is also making a name for himself on the golf course, while Mike Aherne must be one of the most versatile sportsmen in the society.

Mike played hurling and football with Saint Brendan’s and he was also an excellent soccer goalkeeper with Limerick.
