All the weeks latest action and news in all areas of sport in and around Limerick.

SOCCER

Paul Walsh won the Irish Universities Harding Cup for University of Limerick with the game’s only goal against UCC at Coleraine.

UL rode their luck throughout the competition, and no more so than in the dying seconds of the final when they had player-of-the-tournament, centre-back Brendan Daly, to thank when the impressive defender was forced to clear off the line at the death.

Walsh’s winner came when he picked up a perfect pass from skipper Liam Barrett on the edge of the box and hit a left-footed drive past the helpless Eoin Kelly.

RUGBY

Limerickman Eoin Reddan has penned a new two-year contract at Wasps.

The 27-year-old, who is keeping Peter Stringer out of the Irish Team, has committed himself to the European Champions until the end of the 2009-10 season.  He joined the London outfit from Munster in Summer 2005 as back-up to Matt Dawson but quickly established himself as first choice and has captained the side on several occasions this season.

Reddan said:  “I’ve learned a lot in the last two-and-a-half years at Wasps and I do feel there is more to come.”

Commented the club’s Director of Rugby Ian McGeechan:  “Eoin has become a very important part of what we do and how we do it.”
