GREYHOUND RACING

David Morgan has announced his retirement from the Irish Greyhound Board (IGB), with whom he has acted, in a most successful capacity, as Commercial & Operations Manager for the last five years.

In conjunction with Morgan’s news, the board also revealed that the trend from monthly accounts show that the IGB will record surplus in the region of €5 million for 2007. One of the main contributors to this success is the overall commercial performance of the nine stadia owned and operated by the board.

Meanwhile, Limerick is to be rated fast as of Monday next. “It will be rated .10 fast for 300 Yds, .20 fast for both 525 Yds and 550 Yds, and. 25 fast for 700 Yds,” said an IGB statement. “It was accepted that Limerick has been maintained in fantastic condition for some time and as a result the track has been also that bit quicker.”

And, the locally-owned Neds Express (Lad De De Syndicate) collected the Corn Dun Bleisce at a well-run coursing meeting at Doon.

BOXING

Tickets are on sale for Andy Lee’s headline bout at the Ladbrokes.com Fight Night at the National Stadium on Saturday night week – these can be purchased through Ticketmaster (www.ticketmaster) at 0818 719 300, or locally at Empire Music.

Kelly Travel (061/384472) has also confirmed it will operate a return bus service from Limerick for Lee’s first fight on home soil.

The middleweight sensation is unbeaten in 13 professional outings, ten of which been won on knock-outs. “Manny (coach Emanuel Steward) says if I continue to knock these guys out we’ll have to start arranging public exhibitions where we’ll bring in two or three guys to spar, just so I can get used to going ten rounds in front of a crowd. He says there’s no-one to beat me on skill level, but I just need to get that experience in,” Lee said.

“Things couldn’t have gone any better though. I’m not here (Detroit) two years, yet I’ve had 13 fights and all wins.”
