Page 1 of 4 Adare Manor GC is down to the final of its Spring League, following a hectic weekend of action on Maigueside.
In the quarter-final, wins were recorded by teams captained by Tom Harrington, Martin Costello, Ger Considine and Paul Griffin. At the semi-final stage, Costello’s side beat Harrington’s selection and Griffin’s troops overcame the Considine brigade. The final will take place on Saturday fortnight, March 29th.
A semi-open Mixed Foursomes will be staged at the club on St. Patrick’s Day, and a time-sheet is now open for this competition. Torrential rain forced the abandonment of the final of the Tony Connolly sponsored Winter League at Limerick County GC. “The weather turned pretty nasty as the first group of golfers were heading towards the 18th. There was an unmerciful amount of rainfall that left the greens unplayable and it was felt only fair to abandon play, particularly with the best interest of the course itself in mind. It was an extremely unfortunate scenario, but the final has been re-fixed for Saturday next,” a spokesperson for the club explained. The top eight teams for the final are those captained by Charlie O’Neill, Seamus O’Driscoll, Mike Molyneaux, John Keogh, Matt Evans, Cronin Garry (junior), TJ Walsh and Ger Lowe, with O’Neill’s selection – handsome leaders after the qualifying rounds – installed as strong favourites to win the coveted early-season title at Ballyneety. It’s down to the last eight teams in the Winter League at Charleville GC, with the quarter-finals listed for next Sunday.
The quarter-final draw is: Bernard O’Shaughnessy v Henry Dore; Tadgh O’Connell v Brendan Horan; John Horgan v Sean O’Brien and Frankie Finn v Mike Sexton. Those qualified for the quarter-finals of the Shield are under the captaincies of John P. Collins, Mike Murphy (sponsor), Anthony K Fitzgerald, Anthony Connery, Liam Murphy, Shane Liddy, Declan Cregan and Carl McCarthy. In the Holmpatrick Cup Qualifier at Limerick GC, single-figure performers Cathal Walsh (5) and Dermot Gallagher (3) produced a dazzling display to win with an outstanding 44 points.
