Page 1 of 2 Two former club captains teamed-up to win an Aggregate Fourball competition at Adare Manor GC. Friends Tom Hickey and Tom Kelly posted a superb 72 points in testing conditions to emerge victorious by a single point from Denis McInerney and John Howard. The competition at the century-plus-old course was one of only a handful to take place in the mid-west at the weekend. It would certainly appear that drainage work carried out there in recent times has worked wonders. Additional drainage-work at the short sixth and fine closing par four have now been completed, and should further enhance this parkland gem. As for Messrs. Hickey and Kelly, the pair are quite an outstanding combination and on their day have often proved 'unbeatable.' The ever-popular Open Tuesday Singles at Adare Manor are scheduled to return in late March or early April. Tony Connolly has announced his continuation as sponsor of the Men's Winter League at Limerick County CC. Over a life time of involvement in the clothing business, Tony – a recent past president at the club – has built a wonderful business on Patrick Street and is himself one of the sharpest dressers in the game. As a player, he is also a finely tuned mid-handicapper who regularly features in the prizes at Ballyneety and beyond. The time-sheet is now open for the league (061/351881) and the draw for teams will take place on Wednesday, January 30th – the competition itself will commence on the opening weekend of next month and continue through the month of February. A very popular event, the tournament affords members an ideal opportunity to ease themselves back into the swing of things ahead of the new season. Like many others around, Limerick County GC was forced to postpone its planned weekend 12 hole singles competition due to excessive rain. A gentle reminder also of the relatively new automated tee-up system at the Limerick County Driving Range. "Users have responded very positively and have been loud in their praise of this state-of-the-art technology," commented PGA Professional at Ballyneety Donal McSweeney. "The system does everything for the player shoot of hitting the ball. Golfers are queuing up to use the system, which has been installed in every bay." Membership of the Driving Range at Limerick County GC is also possible. Visit www.limerickcounty.com. A time sheet is open at Charleville GC for next weekend's Noonan Shield (9am-12noon, Saturday). The Ladies Club will be in action tomorrow (Thursday), with a singles tournament – draws will take place at 9am, 9.30am, 10.15a, 11am and 1.30pm. |
