Page 1 of 2 The form team of the Tony Connonlly sponsored Winter League at Limerick County GC has emerged as overall winners.
Led brilliantly by Charlie O’Neill, the sextet – consisting also of Jim Wallace, Geraldine Williams, Pat Keane, Jonathan Cosgrave and Siobhan Cronin – were ten points better than the second placed team of Matt Evans, a proud Welshman, Eamon McGrath, Mike Meade, Marie Mulcahy, John Reardon and club president Connie Ryan. In third position were TJ Walsh, Fiona Corbett, Paul Kilbridge, Mark Sutton, Flan O’Neill (jnr) and Mike Murphy.
Meanwhile, the Open Season at Limerick commences on Monday and Tuesday next, with a singles competition listed for both days – a time sheet is in operation at 061/351881. George Stacpoole – one half of the hugely popular The Dealers on RTE One Television – and his Italian-born international fashion designer wife Michelina were sponsors of the semi-open Mixed Foursomes at Adare Manor GC on St. Patrick’s Day. “George and Michelina have been loyal supporters of our club for a great number of years and we are grateful for their sponsorship again this time around,” stated Captain John O’Gorman. “It is was a really well supported event as we had practically a full time-sheet.” Victory in the competition was secured by David Carroll and Miriam Feighry, who finished a couple of strokes ahead of Tim and Asun Smyth, with Lady President Mary O’Brien and past captain Tom Griffin in third position. In an earlier club fourball, a countback separated the top three pairings – Michael Ryan (G) and Eugene Aherne emerged winners, ahead of Pat O’Brien and Eamon Ryan with Michael Hickey and Paddy Hogan forced to settle for third spot, with all teams having finished on 42 points.
Newcastle West GC has announced the installation of a defibrillator at its course at Rathgonan, near Ardagh.
The club purchased this live-saving device and has mounted same in a prominent location close to the entrance. Training in the use of the defibrillator has already been undertaken by most staff (office, catering and course), along with several prominent members. “If it only ever saves one life it will have been worth it,” commented captain Tommy Greaney.
