Page 1 of 2 Billy O’Shaughnessey and Michael Ryan (Pallas) returned the top score of 40 points in the opening round (Fourball) of the Spring League at Adare Manor GC. With two cards to count, O’Shaughnessy’s team are the early pace-setters with 80 points closely followed by Martin Costello’s side on 79 points and Mick Barry’s selection in third on 78 points.
Teams skippered by the likes of TG Geary, Damien Moloney, Brendan O’Connor and Paul Griffin are also well in contention. Next weekend’s format is Foursomes. On the senior’s front, Paddy Moloney, Bill Fitzgerald and Marie Daly rolled back the years with a brilliant score to capture the weekly Mixed Scramble. The aforementioned Messrs. Ryan and O’Shaughnessy were also in the winners enclosure when taking second place in the inter-club table quiz, beaten by a point be team-of-four Pat Shanahan, Sean Moran, Gerry Loftus and Paddy Duffy (also of Adare Manor GC). The inter-club quiz involves teams from Adare Manor, Castletroy GC and Limerick GC. A team led by Seamus O’Driscoll is in pole position after the first round of the Tony Connolly’s sponsored Winter League at Limerick County GC.
Former All-Star nominated hurling full-back Pa Carey, Tim Smyth, John Keogh, Matt Evans and Bart O’Brien senior also have their troops in top form at the moment – the league continues for a number of more weekends. Elsewhere, the Winter League at Charleville GC is also up-and-running for another season.
