The €24,000 first prize in Westmeath was pocketed by Andrew Tampion (23) from Melbourne, Australia who finished on eight under par 280, which left him a shot ahead of England's Richard Bland and David Drysdale of Scotland. Ulster's Gareth Shaw (22), competing in only his second professional event, was best-placed of the large home challenge in a tie for fourth place.

Munster finished a most disappointing fourth in the Inter-provincial Women's Championship at splendid East Clare GC, with Leinster emerging overall winners for the fifth year on the trot. Connacht finished runners-up with Ulster third. In terms of the overall points table, Munster finished no win to their credit beaten by all three provinces. Catherine Tucker of Limerick GC was the only local representative on the Munster Team and performed satisfactorily. East Clare GC won many admirers for its impressive handling of the tournament.

John Culleton, Managing Director of Ennis Road Motors and Ennis Opel, is once again main sponsor of Shannon GC's Two Day Fundaiser on next Friday and Saturday, a tournament that offers around €4,000 in prizes.

"I'm pleased that we can help to drive the development of our club forward again this year," commented Mr. Culleton, himself a long-standing member at Shannon GC.

Funds raised from the event will go towards ongoing improvement on a magnificent course that will shortly host the European Men's Senior Team Championship and the Irish Close Championship in 2011. Entry for a Team of Four is €500, with tee box/green sponsorship also on offer, with further details available from club at 061/471849.

A reminder Open Week at Limerick GC continues through until Sunday next.

Supported by Ulster Bank, into Open Week is only €5 for members and €25 for visitors, which represents excellent value. The time sheet is now open at 061/431340-412492.
