Young Munster made a welcome return to the First Division of the AIB All Ireland league after six seasons in the Second Division.

The players lined up outside the Old Crescent dressing room following their 14-10 victory and gave a rousing rendition of ‘Beautiful Beautiful Munsters’.

Young Munster veteran Willie Allen, who had sung the song at many Cup and League finals, smiled down at the young players from the Old Crescent clubhouse balcony.

The ‘boys from the back of the monument’ have the most loyal supporters in Ireland and they bring their own brand of colour to the competition.

Old Crescent may have lost the match but they got the bonus point, which insures they remain in the Second Division. Coaches Jed O’Dwyer and Des Clohessy deserve great credit for the 11th hour rescue from the drop to the Third Division.

Over 3,000 fans turned up at Rosbrien to watch the game so it was smiles all round.

Thomond also remain in the Second Division.
Bruff ended their League campaign unbeaten and they will join Crescent and Thomond in Division 2.

It was also smiles all round for Limerick’s First Division sides as they all won last Saturday.

Garryowen and Shannon will hope to consolidate their top four play off positions on Saturday April 19, when they have home matches against UCD and Greystones respectively.

At this stage it looks like Shannon will have a home semi-final against Garryowen, with Cork Constitution at home to either Clontarf or Dolphin in the other semi-final play offs.

Next season promises to be a hectic one for Limerick clubs with four in the First Division, and three in Division Two.
